So near yet so far!

Written by Angeline Fu
Rob & co have made it off the mountain and onto the mainroad today and he is back in civilisation (well, semi civilised because he is finally contactable on his mobile!)

Just heard that they are still stuck in China because of a landslide which closed a road heading back to Kathmandu. Fingers crossed some gnomes will clear the roads by tomorrow when they wake up and they can be on their way to Kathmandu and then its another step closer to coming home! I am keeping my fingers crossed that Rob will be back before the 3rd of October, in time for my mid autumn festival party in our house.

Elizabeth Hawley, a world famous chronicler of Himalayan expeditions and a close friend of Edmund Hillary has heard of their expeidtion and asked them to contact her when they get back to Kathmandu - oh how exciting!

I am sure they will be super stoked by the fact that they would be speaking to someone who knew Edmund Hillary and family and wants to find out about the challenge8000 expedition!

Yes! They climbed over the landslide to get to the other side... made it to Kathmandu without any of their bags today!! Trust them to do things like that! The next wait is for their bags which is supposed to be there tomorrow evening (Thursday!)
Your wait is almost over, Jo, and they should be home soon! I bet you cant wait!
We are definitely planning a trip to Malta for a big celebration, cant wait, will let you know once we managed to coordinate our schedules and sort out our flights!

Marco has shouldered his back pack and legged it to Kathmandu where Greg is waiting before the guys - he needs to be on the plane leaving 8pm their time tomorrow!! He told me getting to Kathmandu from the base of the mountain was more stressful than getting to the top of ChoOyu!! It's a pity the team members did not get to have a celebratory drink together in Kathmandu - they deserved it!! Maybe you and Rob can come celebrate with us in Malta soon!
